A great deal of amusement was caused at the boxing tournament m the Hastings Municipal Theatre (states the “ Napier Telegraph”) by tho antics of a Maori woman who became wildly excited during a bout in which a Maori ‘contestant was engaged. bitting in the front row of the stalls, the woman was in full view of all, and when she jumped to her feet, waving her arms in all directions, and yelled lieiseif hoarse with instructions to her countryman, the crowd sat up and took notice, their attention being divided between a really humorous boxing exhibition and the Maori woman’s doings. At the finish, when everyone was waiting for the verdict, the dusky lady entertained the orchestra with a solo haka which was greatly appreciated. Hie fighting efforts of the lady, however, could not make her champion win but this did not worry her, and her haka continued without interruption.
