EVIDENCE IN DIVORCE CASES. (Per Press Association—Copyright.) SYDNEY, August 8. The Legislative Council debated the Marriage Amendment Bill and passed a clause providing for the dissolution of marriage on the ground of insanity, and a clause aiming at the prevention of the publication of evidence or particulars heard in the Divorce Court, except the names, addresses and occupations of the parties and witnesses. The penalty proposed is three months imprisonment or a fine of £SOO, or both. It is proposed to prohibit the piiblication of photographs also.

DISEASE IN SHAVING BRUSHES. (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. It was stated at a committee meeting at the West Maitland Hospital that as a result of a recent anthrax case 50 dozen shaving brushes seized had' been found to be infected with the disease. The medical officer stated that the brushes were imported from England, but probably were of Chinese origin. RECENT BANK ROBBERY. As a sequel to the bank robbery, Alfred William Ghittoek was arrested and charged with the theft of £o2-/. MINISTERIAL APPOINTMENT. In the House of Representatives, Mr Bruce announced that Mr W. C. Hill had been appointed Minister of Public Works and Railways, in succession to Mr Stewart. Mr Hill will presently proceed to South Africa. QUEENSLAND POLITICS. (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. A meeting of the Queensland executive of the Australian Labour Party expressed full confidence in the Government. This settles the crisis which faced the Theodore Government.

TAXATION OF RACES. (Received This Day 10.15 a.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. The annual report of the Australian Jockey Club shows that the prize money distributed during the past year was £142,000. The totalisator receipts were £1,315,000, as compared with £1,373,000 last year. From the totalisator and admission taxes the State benefited to the extent of £174.000 and the Commonwealth £13,000,
