The United States Shipping Board states that the Atlantic conference- of translantic pasenger lines has decided that the hest average speed across the Atlantic last season was achieved hy the Leviathan. The conference figures classify the speedy shins of the North Atlantic as follows:—Leviathan, with an average speed of 2.3.57 knots; Manretania, 23.51 knots; Majestic. 23.29 knots; Aqnitania, 22.65 knots; Rerengaria', 22.27 knots; and Olympic, 21.44 knots.
A schoolmaster in Bulgaria attached a. greeting to the leg of a swallow at the end of last summer. The bird migrated, and recently returned to its nest under the eaves of the' schoojhouse. A slip of paper was fastened to its leg, which proved to be an answering greeting from a village in India.
