WIRELESS LINKING UP. ! (Per Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, July 23. In the Commons, the PostmasterGeneral (Mr Vernon Hartshorn) an- ’ nounced that the Government had decided to adopt the main recommendations of the Donald Imperial Wireless Committee. Asked about the cost, Mr Hartshorn said the Marconi Company could erect a station for the Government at cost price plus 10 per cent, contractor’s profit. The maximum was fixed at £58,000. If additional units w’ere required for Australia and Booth Africa, they would cost a maximum of £36,000. Nothing would be paid by the Government unless the tests were satisfactory. The contracts would not be valid unless approved by the Commons; therefore there would be an opportunity for discussion. The Government would only accept and pay for installations if they fulfilled certain minimum guarantees, viz. communication at the rate of 100 words per minute for the following average number of hours daily throughout the year—with Canada 18, with South Africa 11, with India 12, and with Australia 7 hours. The communication will only take place in the hours of I darkness and one or two hours before j and after twilight. I
