THE ASHBURTON CENTRE. A meeting of the Ashburton County Football Association was held last night, when there was present: Messrs A. Amos (chairman), J. \\ ilson, N. Corbett, R. Wilson, F. Anderson, D. Jones, and G. A. McDonnell. Mr J. Wilson was elected secretary of the association. Five new vicepresidents were elected. The three Wanderers’ delegates were appointed an executive. Messrs F. H. Knight, J. Wilson, and D. J ones were appointed to draw up rules and report to next meeting. Messrs F. Anderson, A. Amos, and F. H. Knight were appointed selectors to the association. It was decided to place a levy of 10s on each affiliated club. Arrangements were made for Saturday’s match between the Possibles and Probables, from which the county representative team will be selected. The matter of the holding of a six-a-side competition was left in the hands of the Wanderers’ Club, with power to act. After some discussion it was decided to play the county representative team against the second team at Wakanui on Saturday week.
CHINESE BEAT HAWKE’S BAY. NAPIER, July 23. The Chinese University Students’ Association football team their first victory in the Dominion this afternoon, when on McLean Park, Napier, they defeated the Hawke s Bay representatives by a margin of two goals to nil.

The ground was on the soit side owing to recent heavy ram. ine visitors proved much superior to the local team, and won comfortably by 2U points to 3.

ENGLISH TEAM’S FIRST MATCH. A* WIN AGAINST SOUTH AUCKLAND. HAMILTON, July 23. The English League football team played the first match of its tour against South Auckland in bnllian sunshine. The ground was rather slippery. The attendance was about oUUL. The Englishmen were much heavier than their opponents. A fast and interesting game resulted, but was marred by constant infringement of the rules by the Englishmen, who were repeatedly penalised for off-side play. About half-way through the first spell Pollard,? the English three-quarter, was injured, and left the field for some time. A little later Darwell, an English forward, was ordered off the field for rough play. The Englishmens strength lay in weight and juice and passing rushes. South Auckland, though lighter, played well, and the first spell was very even, ending: England 13, South Auckland (. The second spell was much more strenuous. South Auckland had the advantage until about ten minutes before the call of time. At one time the scores were: England 18, South Auckland 16. In the closing stages England attacked strongly, scoring three tries in quick succession, the last one as the whistle sounded. The game ended: England 28, South Auckland 16 The feature of the Englishmen s play was their fine passing, especially the reverse movement. For the winners tries were scored by Ring (2), Evans (2). Howley, and Parkin (one each). Sullivan converted four and kicked a penalty. For South Auckland, Johnston and Wilson scored tries. Dufty converted the two and kicked tlnce penalty goals.

Shearman 33, D. F. Keir 35, J. Meelcing 32—168 No 2 team—F. Clark 34, C. Simpson 34, A. McKenzie 34, F. P. Cookson 33, B. Baker 34—169. No 3 team—A. J. Milhehamp 35, N. White 35, J. Houston 32, A. Todd 31, S. Gudsell 31—164. The aggregates at present are:—JNo. 1 team 337, No. 2 team 335, No. 3 team 326.

formance on the Ashburton Club’s range last evening. .He registered .17 consecutive hulls, his next shot being a close-in four. The winner of an electric torch presented by W. H. Collins and Co., Ltd., was found in D. F. Keir, who, with a handicap of one, put on 34, 34, 35. The runner-up was C. Simpson (2) 33, 35, 34.
