BURNSIDE MARKET

DUNEDIN, July 23. There was a- notable change in prices realised at the Burnside sales to-day. Sheep sold at about last week’s rates, prices for fat cattle were easier. Fat cattle—There was a big entry, 371 head being yarded compared with 312 last week. The offering was comprised of plain to prime quality animals, the proportion of the latter being very fair. A number of unfinished animals was, however, forward at the opening of the sale. The rates for good quality bullocks were from 20s to 30s per head lower than last week’s rates. Extra prime handy-weight bullocks sold at up to 32s 6d, extra, heavy prime bullocks 28s to 30s, medium quality bullocks to 27s 6d, light to 255. Extra prime heifers 27s 6d to 28s 6d, cows and light heifers 15s to 20s, extra prime bullocks sold up to £l6 ss, prime from £l3 10s to £l4 10s, and light I from £8 to £lO ss. Extra prime cows I sold at £8 15s and lighter sorts at up jto £7 ss.

Fat sheep—There was an entry of 1893 head, compared with 3493 last week. The quality was considerably below that of last week’s offering. The entry consisted mainly of coarse crossbred sheep, comparatively few fine-wool animals being forward. The sale opened quietly, some of the butchers still having sheep on hand from last week s big offering. The opening was, if anything, easier, but the rates for good sorts firmed, hut last week’s prices were not secured. Good ewes sold fairly well. Prime handy-weight wethers sold at from 6ld to 6M ; per lb, prune heavyweight wethers at up to 6d, extra prime ewes 5d to 54 d, medium quality and aged ewes to 44d. Extra prime heavyweight wethers brought up to 48s 9d, prime from 45s to. 47s 6d, medium from 38s to 445, light to 35s 6d. Extra prime heavy-weight ewes sold at up to 475, prime 34s to 395, medium 27s to 30s, inferior to 225. Hoggets—The few hoggets that were forward were distributed among other sheep and sold at'recent rates, namely, 10|d per lb for prime and 9d for second quality- , , Store cattle—An offering of 175 lu?ad Most of the animals were yearlings and weaners. There "was an odd pen of steers and a good number of cows. About 25 steers were offered, and these sold well at from £4 7s to £5 ss. There were about 100 weaners, and good quality animals from 25s to 425. Pigs—The offering consisted of 123 fats and 45 stores. The market was firm at about last week’s rates, namely, up to B£d per lb for porkers and 8d for baconers.

ADDINGTON STOCK SALE. * CHRISTCHURCH, July 23. At Addington market to-day tat cattle were again in over supply, and tliere was another in values. Fat sheep sold slightly better, as did store sheep. A heavy consignment of North Island ewes was passed in at 38s. Store sheep were in slack demand m the early stages, but a decided firming was noticed later on. Fat sheep—A small yarding ot 85 races was submitted. The market opened well, hut values were irregular. On the whole the market was better than last week by up to 2s per head for ewes, and less for wethers. Extra prime wethers made 53s (a few special to 60s 9d), prime 42s to 48s, medium 39s to 425, light 34s to 38s 6d ; extra prime ewes to 465, special pens to o2s 6:1, prime 35s to 38s 6d, medium 31s to 345, light 27s to 80s, old 24s to 265; prime hoggets 33s to 3/s 3d, medium 28s to 325. Fat cattle —Another very heavy yarding, comprising 540 head, as against 510 last week, met a weakening market throughout, and values were down by about 2s per 1001 b. Sales were hard to make over the final stages. Extra prime beef was sold on the basis of 34s per 1001 b, prime 30s t-a 32s 6d, medium 27s to 29s 6d. Extra prime steers brought £l6 10s to £lB 15s. prime show bullocks £ll, £l2 5s and £ls 10s ;extra prime heifers £l3, prime £6 10s to £8 15s. Vealers—There was a large entry, and all round prices were easier. Good runners £7, god vealers £4 to £o os, good calves £2 5s to £3 15s. Fat Pigs—A small supply of baconers met with a good demand. There was a large supply of porkers, and prices were a little easier. Choppers made an average price per lb of 83 d to 9d; aud porkers an. average price per lb of 9d to 9£d.

LONDON WHEAT REPORT. LONDON, July 22. The wheat cargo market is easy at 3d to Is decline on reports of a lower American market. Parcels are slow of. sale, and buyers are indifferent. Manitoba wheat is vd a quarter down.
