ROUGH TRIP FROM SYDNEY.
PKAISE FOR M. BROWNLIE, LUCAS, AND COOKE. AUCKLAND, July 22. The All Blacks arrived at Auckland late to-night after a very stormy trip from Sydney. Many of the team are far from being good sailors, and they were very glad to get ashore again. They were met on arrival by a large crowd of Rugby enthusiasts. The crowd on the wharf was also swelled by League supporters, who had gone down to welcome the English team. In view of the rough trip, the All Blacks are unlikely to display their true form against Auckland to-morrow. Heavy rain fell this evening, and the ground will in consequence be heavy. The Auckland team will be weaker than usual owing to a number of casualties in club contests. Most of the business premises will close, and many school children will be released from work in order that they may attend the match. Interviewed to-night, the manager paid a tribute to the warm reception given the team by the Australian people. The tour had done the team a lot of good. The first defeat was unexplainable.
Badeley said M. Brownlie was the best forward, and Lucas and Cooke the best backs.
THE TIN WALD CLUB. The Tinwald Football Club held a general meeting last night, at which the club’s affairs were discussed. It was decided to enter two teams in the Seven-a-Side Tournament, and also to play a married versus single men’s match at the end of the season.
