A message from Los Angeles says that Dempsey’s right arm, which contributed so heavily to his winning the heavy-weight crown, is out of commission ‘as the result of an automobile accident while on route to a cinema “lot.” The champion said that he escaped death miraculously. His automobile was thrown into a ditch when another car struck it.

PASSPORT TROUBLES. NEW YORK, July 21. Luis Firpo, the heavy-weight boxer, and a woman named Blanca Lourdes, listed as Firpo’s stenographer, were hold by the immigration authorities on their arrival from the Argentine because their passports were insufficiently vised. Firpo’s secretary, Edward .Carbone, and Miguel Farrar, his sparring partner, were also detained, and all were sent to Ellis Island. Firpo later was admitted to the United States as a visitor.
