LABOUR FORMING MINISTRY.
(Per Press Association —Copyright.) MELBOURNE, July 17. Following the defeat of the State Ministry, Sir Alexander Peacock tendered the resignation of the Cabinet. The Preimer did not advise the Governor as to a successor, but his Excellency sent for Mr Prendergast It is understood the Labour leader is forming a Ministry. TONGAN MISSION. (Received July 18, 10.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The general secretary of the Methodist Missionary Society of Australasia has cabled the Rev. Mr Page, chairman of the Society's Mission at Tonga, concerning the recent statements relating to disturbances there, and has received a reply denying the whole report and stating that everything is peaceful.
STRIKE EXTENDS. (Received July 18 10.10 i a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The strike at Morwell has extended and now 600 men are affected. DEATH PENALTY WAIVED. (Received July 18, 10.10 a.m.) : 1 PERTH, This Day. Cabinet commuted the death sen tence passed on Auburn to imprisonment for the term of his natural life.
