METHVEN SHOW.

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. ANNUAL SOCIAL EVENING. The annual social and presentation of cups in connection with the Methven A. and P. Association was held in the Methven Town. Hall last night. There was a very large attendance of members and their friends, and also

a number of visitors from other districts. The evening took the form of dancing, interspersed with songs by local and visiting performers. The cups were presented by Mr C. T. Jessep, president. The following were the winners: President’s Cup, awarded for most points at the show in all classes—Miss ivy Anderson (Methven), 275 points. 'Dowling Memorial Cup, for most points in live stock —R. J. Low (Highoank), 137 points. As -Mr Low has won this competition three years in succession, he wins the trophy outright. * Mr A. T. Lilloy’s Cup, for most points in Shropshires and Southdowns —S. Cox (Lauriston), 55 points. The competition in this class” was very close, Messrs C. and A. Campion (JBarrhill) being runners-up with 54 points. Harrison Estate Cup, for Border Leieesters—R. J. Low, 51 points. Mr J. McCarthy’s Cup, for Corriedales and halfbred sheep—Jamas Bland (Winchmore), 55 points. Messrs Richards Bros, and Mr Bland each held this cup for two years, and Mr Bland has now won it outright, Messrs Richards Bros, again being runners-up with 54 points. Mr Harry Maginness’s Cup, for most points in dairy cows—J. McAnulty, 40 Points. Mr McAnulty richly deserves his win, as he is doing a great work in demonstrating the value of purebred stock in this district. His herd consists of mostly purebred Friesians. Champion Ribbon (for champion dairy cow), presented by Central Dairy Company—-J. McAnulty, with Model Sadie do Kol, who holds the butter-fat record for Canterbury to date) 8381 b. This ribbon did not arrive in rime to

be presented at the show. Messrs D. and W. E. Hampton’s Clip for most points in Shorthorn females was won by R. J. Low, for the third year in succession and outright. . Mr S. Cox’s Cup, for most mints m draught horses—Chas. Hale (Lyndhurst), 44 points. Mr S. Cox’s Cup, for champion lninter—-L. J. Fechney (Westerfield) with “ Mascot.” Mr J. Woodhouse’s Cup for champion hack} Miss McCarthy (Prebbleton), “Gaiety.” Mi’ W. J. Going’s Cup, for best colt ° r two-year-old, by Downsby Junior—Won outright by J. D. Kennedy. Mr Alex Drummond’s Cup, for home industries—Won outright by Miss Ivy Anderson (Methven), third year 275 points. ’ Mrs T S. Harrison’s Cup, "for needleiiorlv Mrs J. D. Woods, 48 points: third year, won outright. Mr J F. Stone’s Cup, awarded for best-built stack in the district—C A Campion (Rarrhill). 1 Messrs Sutton and Sons’ Cup. presented through tlie National Mortgage and A. Co.—Jas Campbell (Methven), 202 points (second time). The Annual Social.

Mr C. T. Jessep in presenting the cnps, thanked the donors for their liberality, and said that in numbers and value cups, the Methven Show must rank first of country shows. He said that competition at the Show was getting keener each year, and for this the cups were largely responsible. A new ground had been purchased and improved, and next year the Show would be held there. *He apologised tor the absence of Messrs J'as>Carr ■nd R. N. Elliott, two of their leading members, who were representing the Association at the Dunedin Show end conference of the A. and P. Associations. accepted, on behalf of Mr Campion, the cup won by him, and apologised for Mr Campion’s absence Messrs 11. J. Low, J. MeAinilty, Jets. Campbell, J. D. Kennedy Jas Bland, W. Leatham, and Miss L Anderson also responded. Mr J. F. Stone accepted the cup won by Mrs J. D. Wood for needlework. I-Ie stated that six cups had been won outright this year, and Messrs Me A unity and Freeman had promised to give two new ones. At the conclusion of the presenta- I tion of the cups,- Mr Harry Magginness said lie had a very pleasant duty to Perform, and that was to make a small presentation to Mr and Mrs W. Morgan, who were leaving on a trip to Lie Old Country. They had always taken an active interest in all public affairs in the district, and Mr Morgan " bad been a member of every public body. He had been a member and committeeman of the A. and P, Association since its inception, and had held the position of president. He had much pleasure, on behalf of the Association, in presenting Mr and Mrs Morgan with a Kaiapoi rug, and wished them a pleasant trip and a safe return.

Mi- Morgan replied and thanked all tor the pleasant things said, and the presentation made.

Songs were contributed by Mrs Shearer and Messrs K. Roy and Hall. Mr E. D. Thomas' was M.'C. and the music for the dance was supplied by Mr Dayborn. The Rev. F. A. Tooley acted as accompanist.
