The romance of the shopgirl who is now legally recognised as a relation of royalty culminated at a Court session at Edinburgh, when Lord MiriSon granted a declaration that Miss Constance Mary Lyon, a shop assistant at Aberdeen, was the eldest lawful daughter of Hubert Ernest Bowes-Lyon, a nephew of the Earl of Strathmore, which 'relationship,', makes Miss Lyon .a second cousin of the Duchess of York. - ’. .. [A previous message stated t The Edingbugh Court of, Session is hearing a romantic claim by Constance Mary Lyon, aged 19, a shop assistant at Aberdeen, seeking! a declaration that she is the eldest lawful legitimate daughter of Hubert Ernest BowesLyon, nephew of the Earl of Strathmore, and therefore a cousin to the Duchess of York. The action is not being defended. The girl claims that she is the daughter of Hubert Bowes-; Lyon and Mary Smeaton, born in December, 1904, and that her birth was legitimised by her parents’ marriage in January, 1905. It was stated in evidence that Miss Smeaton boarded out the baby with a Mrs Collie, in Aberdeen, wno received 6s weekly on thati account. After Mrs Collie’s decease the child was brought up by her married daughter. Claimant does not remember ever seeing her parents. She has lived her whole life in Aberdeen.]
