Lord Burnham presided at the first of a series of monthly Empire Press Union luncheons, arranged to enable overseas newspaper men to meet each other. He announced the Union was presenting to the principal guest _ a portrait in • oils in commemoration of 71 years' newspaper work. He added that English newspapers would improve the service with the Dominions if the cable companies, instead of conserving .surpluses, reduced cable costs; and also if competitive wireless was available the service would I be better still.

Sir George Fenwick, and a, host of London editors were present.
