RAKAIA. A peculiar accident befel a cow belonging to Mr J. Pye at Rakaia on Tuesday night. The ground lias been in a sodden condition ior months past, and this fact helped to bring about the trouble. During the night the cow was in an enclosure containing in one paid an underground sump. The weight ot the animal caused this to collapse and she fell in. It was a frosty night. The animal was in a bad way when pulled out in tho morning, and did not long survive. The following will represent the Rakaia Football Club in their matches

At tlie Doric IMiniature Rifle Club’s ran-T-e a match was fired for a tro.pli> presented by Mr A. Richards. Tim following tied with total scores of So: R. Shanks 34—2, J. Taylor 28—9, R. Harrison 32—6. J. Baker 3o—o. _ D - GMcKie 31—5, W. Banks 32—0. H. Currev 29—9, H. Harrison 32— 0, Jr>. Hvland 31—4, D. McMillan 32—3. On the third shoot there remained m H. Harrison, R. Harrison, and C. Currev. The first-named proved the winner. The practice shoot took thevforni of a rapid-fire competition, seven shots on the centre bull only. The scores were: T Baker 34, D. Banks 34, D. G. McKie 34 IM. Kingsbury 34. D. Hamson 04, S. Hvland 33. S. Banks 33, H. Harrison 33 J. Baker was adjudged the winner, having the fastest time and the best group.
