COALMINING HITCH.

A coal hitch is said to have arisen through John Brown insisting on the introduetioi of a Sullivan turbine air machine at the Pelawmain colliery. The miners contend that such action i.s in conflict with the agreement, which provides for resumption on the same conditions as those which were operating ‘when the stoppage occurred. The owners’ representative explained that the new machine was working prior to the stoppage, but no award had made respecting it. The dispute]-un-less speedily adjusted, may jeopardise the agreement.
BUYING COAL FROM BRITAIN. (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. In consequence of the disturbed state of the coal industry in New South Wales, coal consumers of Victoria and South Australia are placing orders in ,South Africa and England.
Subsidy for eastern trade. (Received This Day, 12.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The Federal Ministry decided to dismiss the Commonwealth Trade Commissioner (Mr Little) in the East ana his staff and also to close the office at Shanghai. Mr E. T. Sheaf who was appointed at the Premiers’ Conference to represent the Commonwealth and the Australian States, is not affected. It is understood the Ministry proposes to assist t*rade with the East by shipping subsidies.
REGULATION OF BROADCASTING
The Executive Council has approved of regulations controlling broadcasting, framed mainly on the recommendations of recent conferences. New amendments will he announced by the postmaster in a few days.
