DOCKERS' STRIKE

UNION LEADERS FIRED.

Following on the dockers’ repudiation of their leaders, the unofficial strike committee has decided to negotiate direct with the employers. It is officially intimated that the leaders are expelled, and may no longer speak on behalf of the strikers.
[Mr Harry Gosling, M.P. (Labour, Whitechapel), president, and Mr Ernest Levin, general secretary of the Transport Workers’ Union, were howled down by 5000 docker® when they attempted to put the Union’s case ’before the meeting. As soon as the leaders mounted the platform the crowd boohed and cried: “Traitors!” “Swine!” “Cowards!” “ You have sold us.” The unofficial strike leaders thereupon called the dockers to show contempt for the official leaders by leaving the hall, which they did, leaving only the leaders on the platfoUn. Messrs Gosling and Levan were greatly affected by their' treatment. Mr Bevin isaid he would make another effort to convince the men.]
