Mr W. G, Atack, secretary of the New Zealand Boxing Council, is a visitor to Ashburton.
Mr H. D. Mclvellar,-Commissioner of Crown Lands and Chief Surveyor for Nelson, who will retire from the-public service on July 31, will then have had nearly 43 years’ service. He entered the Lands Department as a cadet at Auckland in 1881. After service m field and office he became c hief draughtsman there in 1910, and at W ellmgton in 1915. He was appointed Commissioner of Crown Lands and Chief Suivevor for Marlborough in 191 G and 111 1919 was transferred to kelson m a similar capacity. Mr McKellar comes of a family which landed in New Plymouth amongst the pmneers of the Taranaki district Mr McKellar s father (Mr D. M. McKellar) and his uncle (Mr H. S. McKellar) were re. spectivelv Collector of Customs at Wellington and Secretary for the Department at the time of their retirement.
Mr J. A.. Young (Waikato), who was elected yesterday as Chairman of Committees of the House of Representatives, entered Parliament m 1911 member for Waikato, and sat for thatelectorate till, last general election, , when he was returned for the new electorate of Hamilton. Since entering Parliament he has boon a member oi. the Local Bills Committee and the Native Affairs Committee, and has been chairman of the latter committee since 1912. Born of Irish parents m Auckland in 1875, Mr Young studied dentistry, and later built up a large piactice in Hamilton, of which town he was elected Mayor in 1909, a position to which he was re-elected three times. He was chairman of the Waikato Hos--pital Board for several years for 14 years he was a member of the Waikato Licensing Committee, and he is still an elected member of the Board of Governors of the Hamilton High School.
