SOUTH CANTERBURY HUNT CLUB
The South Canterbury Hunt Club’s meetin was held at Washdyke on Saturday. The weather was fine and the course in good order for winter racing, though naturally a trifle heavy after the recent rain. There was a good attendance of local sportsmen, but the special train from Christchurch was sparsely patronised. Good fields contested all the events on the programme, and the racing throughout the day was very interesting. The totalisator investments were £11,577, compared with £14,256 last year. Concluding events: Hunters’ Plate Handicap, of 100 sovs; one mile and a half—Chinatown 1, Silk Rein 2, Paul Pry 3. Won easily by two lengths; six lengths between second and third. Time, 2min 55 2-5 sec.
Claremont Welter Handicap, of 100 sovs; one mile —Carmine 1, Fabrinade 2, Kilkee 3. Won by three lengths; five lengths between second and third. Time, Imin 49sec.
