LODGEMAN’S APPEAL. Addressing the Jubilee Banquet of the Loyal Ashburton Lodge, M.U, I 0.0. F., on Saturday night, the Grand Master of the New Zealand Branch, Mr W. R. Gahagen, touched on a. question of great importance to friendly societies, namely, puWic health. must recognise that the est national wealth is the health of 'the common people,” said the Grand Master. “Every day we have the in members whose health is broken, very often through inadequate 'sanitary arrangements, particularly in slum areas. Let ns do. out part in helping where we can toward the development of the health of the nation on a basis higher than the merely physical. The question which should be of the deepest interest to every friendlv society members is the adequate housing of the people. Bad housing conditions have drained the resources of friendly societies more than any other cause. The housing problem of to-dav is your problem and mine, as friendly society men and women. Watch developments and take action where you can. It will he good for your fellow men, yourself, and your society.”
