ASHBURTON RUGBY REPS.

« 0 Sir j —l read the remarks on the above subject contributed by a Rugby expert in your issue of last evening,, with some little amusement. While I agree in the main with your contributor’s remarks, there are one or two exceptions upon which I would like to briefly comment. Why are the remarks of the Rugby expert so brief re the qualifications of St. George, who is probably the finest •‘half” the County has had for many years, and who is to-day representing Canterbury in their match against the Maoris? 1 quite agree with “Rugby Expert” that Kennedy is a “Trojan for work,” but I would like to ask upon what grounds he states that Kennedy plays equally as well at five-eighths as half, as to the best of my knowledge he has not played in the former position in the Ashburton County. Is this, sir,, to prepare the public for some slight, alteration in the position of the backs in the “Rep” team for next week?

[When approached this morning concerning our correspondent’s letter the contributor of the article stated that Kennedy had played other than half in competitions in. this County. There is no player here better- ah opening up the play than this man. This is proved by his style of play in local competitions, and on that account he~ is considered a five-eighths.. Furthermore, when he played foi” South Canterbury he was considered at“star” five-eighths. As far as St.. George was concerned, the fact that, he had represented Southland and last, year was picked as the South Island half, the contributor considered to be well-known to football enthusiasts. The writer thought the County was. very fortunate in having two “half players as we have. As regards the latter portion of our correspondents letter, the Ashburton County team tor next week, to meet Ellesmere, has not, vet, we understand, been pick«l^—Ed J. ‘ ‘EX-REP.
