SUNDAY CONCERTS

CONTINENTAL SABBATH. OPPOSITION IN SYDNEY. DEPUTATION TO PREMIER. (Per Press Association, Copyright). (Received This Day, 12.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Representatives of churches and of theatrical employees’ unions formed a combined deputation to the ActingPremier against the opening of licensed theatres, and halls for Sunday performances. The theatricals chiefly opposed it as an attempt to introduce a seven-day week, which would rob them of their leisure and destroy enjoyment. They also opposed the introduction of the continental Sunday, while the churches generally were opposed to it on moral and religious grounds. The Minister, in a sympathetic reply, said the Government would do nothing contrary to the religious interests of the people.
