PLAGUE IN SYDNEY
YOUNG MAN DIES.
RATS BLAMED. BAD OUTBREAK UNLIKELY.
(Per Press Association, Copyright). (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A death occurred on Saturday of a young man named Ewing Camperdown. His case was diagnosed as septicsemic plague. The medical authorities, whilst urging strict precautions against spread of the disease, say that on account of the time of the year there is a reasonable chance that very little more plague will occur. It is believed the infection had been lurking in a colony of rats. A campaign against rodents has been systematically carried-out for some time past, but the last meeting of the City Council decided to discontinue the sixpence bonus. It is thought this decision will now be revoked, in view of the fresh, outbreak.
