(Message Extraordinary.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Postal Department has received word .that the mail train from Auckland ran into a slip near Ongarue. Six ygggatgeas .were killed .and .thirty .are injured.

Thp> Secretary of the General Dost Office has received a message from .the Postmaster at Taumarunui stating:— “The postmaster at Ongarue reports that the mail .train from Auckland ran into a slip in a cutting half a mile south of Qpgarue this morning. t /The engine and postal van were derailed and three carriages were telefUU)n6Q Six dead passengers have so far been recovered, and there are thirty others S' " Rescuers are still searching the debris. There may be more dead. The mail agents state that the mail van and the mails were damaged relief train, with doctors and t nurses, has gone out from TaumaruBl The Postmaster at Auckland renorts* —“The postal agent on the train states that the express was derailed at Ongarue about a.m Th mail car was smashed, and sever Vthor cars were telescoped. The postal agents all had a miracubras escape. There is loss of life, a« d ™ J seriously injured among the passen gers.”

The Secretary of the G.P.O. says:—■ “The postmaster at Taihape reports that two -carriages following the postal van were telescoped, and they are a - . leged to have caught fire.
