FLOUR MILL FATALITY, v CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.. Mr Harry Hopkinson, head miller r in Wood Bros.’ flour mill, Addington, , was killed about 2.30 o’clock on Tuesday afternoon through being caught in > the rope belting of some machinery. The inquest was opened yesterday ■ morning before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M. Evidence of identification was given by David Alexander Ashby, of 21 Riccarton Road, and the inquest . was adjourned till Saturday at 10.30 > a.m. The police report of the accident . states: “Deceased was inspecting ; machinery at about 3.30 p.m., and apparently lost his balance through some • cause and got tangled in the rope • driving gear. He was dragged round ! the fly wheel, and his body, when released, dropped into the pit below. The driving gear is protected, by two ■ wooden rails about four feet high, and. ’ it is thought deceased had a fainting • turn and fell forward. His head waa j mutilated by the revolving ropes. Deceased is said to have been feeling a » bit weak for the past few days. Apparently he was somewhat run down.” ’

The police have discovered that, three little boys (including the deceased), climbed on the end of thetrucks just before the shunt started, and fell back over the points. Two of the boys clung to the last truck, but Driver caught on to the second from the last. I The other hoys quickly jumped off, and ran away. They apparently did not know that anything had happened to Driver.
