COUNTY CENTRES

MID-CANTERBURY’S AFFAIRS. RAKAIA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A very fine St. Patrick’s Day concert was given in the Rakaia Hall on Thursday evening, the items being all provided by children. The opening chorus was “Believe Me,” after which the prologue was spoken. A Fan song, Alice Blue Gown, Grace Darling, and an Irish song were rendered by the children with appropriate actions and dances. Violin duets were given by Corunna Shannon and Mabel McDonald, and a pianoforte duet by Dorothy Kennett and Hector McDonald. The boys presented a play, and the girls gave “My Aunt’s > Heiress.” At the end came a final address and the chorus “Zealandia.” Miss Flynn acted as aocompaniste. A hearty vote of thanks to the helpers at the concert was proposed by Mr B. McNamara, and carried by acclamation. The evening closed with the singing of “God Save The King.”
