TIMARU TROTTING CLUB. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, March 17. ' The Timaru Trotting Club held its annual race meeting on the Washdyke course on Saturday. The weather was fine, hut a strong wind made the conditions very unpleasant. The totalisator investments were £22,036, compared with £21,247 last year. The following are the details of the racing:— Washdyke Handicap—Fancy Boy 1, Bonny Logan 2, Handsome Lad 3. Mon by half a length. Time, 2.56. Fairlie Handicap—Royal Oak 1, Walroon 2, Dixie Mac 3. Won by three lengths. Time, 4.42 2-5.

Farewell Handicap—Handsome Lad 1, Glenaray 2, Adair 3. Time, 2.19 1-5.

MASTERTON RACING CLUB. MASTERTON, March 17. The autumn meeting of the Masterton Racing Club was held in dull weather and with a fair attendance. The totalisator handled £13,147, against £11,777 last year. Concluding results:— Juvenile Handicap—Kilceit 1, All Gold 2, Rose Martian 3. Won easily. Time, 1.4 2-5. Captain Crawford, superintendent of Garden Island, paid an official call on the officers of H.M.S. Chatham, who will be entertained by the State Ministry on Tuesday. The men* will be given a picnic at the National Park.

Commodore Hotham said the visit was a step in the co-ordination of the defence of the Empire. It was a unique event, and he hoped that it would be the forerunner of further visits. 1 \< » f
