TECHNICAL SCHOOL

TEACHERS' APPOINTMENTS.

A special meeting of the Ashburton Technical School Board of Managers was held yesterday afternoon to consider applications for the ' position of domestic science instructor at the school; also for part-time instructors in art and agriculture, and to appoint two student-assistants. There were present:—Messrs C. Reid (chairman), it. Galbraith, John Watson, T. Hayes and F. Smallbone.

There were four applicants for the position of domestic science instructor. The board unanimously decided to appoint Miss Ethel Aitken, Chrißtchurch, who had had three years' practical experience at the Christchurch High School, the Christchurch Technical Hostel and the Normal Training Centre. Miss Aitken, who is at present teaching at the latter institution, has a first-class pass in the City and Guilds Plain Cookery examinations, a diploma in housewifery, cooking and laundry, at the Christchurch Technical College, a diploma in needlework, millinery and dressmaking at the same college, and St. John Ambulance First Aid Certificate.

Mr P. G; Steyens, holder of the Lincoln College Diploma in Agriculture, was appointed part-time teacher in agriculture. The appointment of an art ; instructor was left in the hands of the chairman and director. The director was given power to advertise for and select student assistants.
