SWIMMING.
LOCAL EVENTS. There were ten competitors in the 50 yards swimming race promoted by the Ashburton Amateur Swimming Club in the Domain Baths last night. It was an interesting event to witness, but for the swimmers it was somewhat unsatisfactory in that, all swimming at the same time, they were crowded, and collisions were not infrequent. The competitors, however, were willing tliar all should swim together, the idea of two fifties last night not being too welcome to some. The race was won by J. Mcßae from the Bsec mark, the limit. J. Ramsay (lsee) finished very fast in second place a yard behind Mcßae, who held his lead throughout. R. G. Frew (ssec) and F. T. Ray (2sec) tied for third place. The rest finished in bunched order. Time, 36sec. Messrs H. Lewis and L. T. Wright were the judges, and E. Coker acted as timekeeper.
