FREE-FOR-ALL FIGHT

TROUBLE ON OILFIELDS. WILD SCENES IN EL DORADO. • VIGILANTES AND UNDERWORLD (Peer Press Association, Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.20 ajn.) NEW YORK, December 14. A telegram from EL Dorado, Arkansas, says that gamblers and other underworld characters renewed the battle with the 1 citizens. Five were shot and several knifed in a free-for-all fight, in which the negroes joined the whisky runners and others in attacking the whites. The latter were finally victorious, gaoling a number of the lawless element. A cablegram on November 29 stated:— “A message from El Dorado, Arkansas, states that in the same way as the gold rushes ip America in 1849 during the development of the goldfields often resulted in conflicts between gamblers and undesirables and self-appointed law forces, a fight occurred to-day in the oilfields involving 2000 “Vigilantes” .and socalled undesirables, resulting ib many casualties.' Some reports indicate that 25 persons were killed, though these are discounted. Disorders have recently been occurring in the oilfields engendered by underworld ' enmities. The “Vigilantes” paraded the towns with placards asking the disturbers to leave. Sheriffs’ posses are attempting to quell the commotion.
