EGYPTIAN TROUBLES.
GRAVE WATER SHORTAGE. (Psr Press Association, Copyright.) (Received March 6, 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, March 5. The “Morning Post’s” Cairo correspondent says a grave feature of the situation is the serious water, shortage. The Nile is worse than in 1914, which was a record. Up-river gauges suggest that the water, aided by the Assouan Dam, would suffice for ordinory summer crops, but there is no surplus for the summer rice. As last year’s cotton crop was very small, the situation is doubly serious, Th© new Cabinet is in a difficult position, as a majority of the Egyptians are unable to understand the necessity for conserving water and will be sure to resist the regulations, which are unpopular.
