NEAR EAST PROBLEMS
ITALY AND THE TURKS.
NEGOTIATING A TREATY.
(Per Press Association, Copyright.) _ LONDON, October 29. The Australian Press Association learns that the position m the Near East has been further complicated by Italy's determination to follow France's attempt to negotiate a separate peace with the Turkish Nationalists, to which end a mission has actually reached Angora from Rome.
The diplomatic correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" says: — "We are entitled to the same measure of support we accorded France on the Rhine, and Italy m the Alps and the Adriatic. The task of defending the Allies' original programme and British interests m the Near East will henceforth devolve upon our own snoulders. France and Italy, by actual and prospective undertakings at Angora, have deprived Britain of their effective military collaboration ? and rendered impossible their mediation m the Turco-Greek conflict."
