WILL NOT ABDICATE
DETERMINATION OF KARL.
"LITTLE ENTENTE" AND HUNGARY.
I (Per Press Association, Copyright.) BUDAPEST, October 29. Notwithstanding pressure by the Government, Karl still declines to sign a renunciation of the throne. His refusal has led to a Catholic bishop m Hungary being commissioned to appeal to his religious feelings, and so avoid Berious trouble for the country. If the mission fails the Government will be compelled to depose him, but this will be difficult owing to the attitude of the Christian Nationalists.
VIENNA, October 31. The Hungarian bishop failed to persuade Karl to abdicate.
Though military preparations by Czecho-Slovakia and Jugo-Slayia are j continuing, it is hoped that war will be avoided. The Allied Powers ■ are trying to convince them that war is unnecessary, and to persuade them not to deliver their ultimatum to Hungary. It is believed that the war cry m Belgrade is due to fear that Hungary will hereafter assist Italy militarily m case of need. PARIS, October 29. King Alexander of Serbia haa departed for Belgrade, which he will enter for the first time since his accession.
