AGRICULTURAL WORKERS
EIGHT-HOUR DAY PROPOSAL. (Per Press Association, Copyright.) LONDON, October 30. The Geneva correspondent of the "Observer" reports that the supporters of the French objection to the agricultural eight-hour day included jthe Australian delegates and also the employers' and Governents' delegates from Britain, Canada, and South Africa. . . The Conference, after an exciting debate, defeated by 90 votes to 17, Francu's attempt to exclude agricultural labour from the scope of the Washington unemployment resolution. ' The Italian and British delegates intimated that the movement aimed at sei curing re-discussion of the question of hours of work for agricultural workers. I It was previously reported that the . French, delegates to the Labour Conference demanded that ' the agrieultur.al question could only be examined from a national viewpoint, not an intemation. France declined to accept the Conference's decisions on the subject. The Conference, by 64 votes to 39, passed a resolution m fa.your of an eight-hour day for agricultural labourers, but being below the required twothirds majority the item had to be withdrawn from the agenda.
