The Qirard case, one of the strangest m the history of scientific crime, has opened. Henri Girard, an insurance agent, with two men and two women accomplices, was charged v^th poisoning five persons with typhoid germs . after heavily insuring tiheir lives. Two victims died and Girard has since* died m prison/ One accomplice/ of Girard' s was Mrs Doneteau, whom Girard secured to induce one 1 , Godel, to insure his life for £23,000. Godel was soon afflicted with a i»js- < terdous illness, but recovered. l jhe next insured Delmas for £1600, ; bought typhoid germs, and invited * Delmas to dinner at her house, ! where Delmas wa-s stricken with ty- j phoid. After drinking an aperient he recovered. One fatal case was ascribed to mushroom poisoning. A maiJ | says she was forbidden to tou^h the victims' plates after dinner, Girard and Deneteau washing the plates with antiseptics. The other victim was a j girl.
