DUNEDIN, Sept. 5. AH classes of fat stock were well reT»resented at the Burnside sales todays Competition was practically confined to the butchering trade. Several buyers from 'outside districts were also present. Sheep sold treadily at " a little firmer prices, while for fat cattle values depreciated to the extent of :25s a head. Prime beef sold at an average of 40s per 1001 b. Fat Cattle — A lairge yarding, numbering 201 head. The quality, on t"he whole, was of a mixed kind, although a number of the pens contained animals m prime condition. The sale for prim© heavy-weights opened under fair competition and values Tvere about equal 1 to last week's rates, but they <quickly came back to 25s a head. Pa-ime bullocks realised from £19 to £22; medium, £15 to £18; light and •unfinished sorts, £10 upwards. Prime heifers realised from £12 10s to £14 10s; medium, £9 10s to £11 10s; light and aged, from £7 10s upwards. Sheep — There was a good yarding, of fair quality, numbering 2459 head. "The sale opened under brisk competition, and a firmer tendency was noticeable. It was also observed that butchers were ,not consistent m their ideas of values, as some pens sold relatively dearer than others. Prices were practically equal to last week's rates. Prime wether mutton sold at 3£d per lb, and ewe mutton at 3Jd. Extra prime heavy-weight wethers realised from 28s 6d to 33s 9d; prime, 23s 3d to 27s 3d; medium, 18s to 225; light and unfinished sorts from 15s upwards. (Prime ewes realised from 17s to 19s; medium, 14s to 16s; light and aged, from 10s 6d upwards. Hoggets — The number offered was 377. These were mostly small and inferior. A portion of the yarding was secured by graziers at low prices, the balance being taken up by butjhers.&t . prices ranging from 13s to 19s a head Graziers' lots sold at from &s to 12s a lead. Store Cattle — A small yarding of about 100 head was offered. With tlie •exception of one or two pens, the yarding comprised young and backwaidconditidned animals. The demand was very poor for the latter class, while good three and four-yeair-old steers m forward condition sold up to £12 2s a iead. Pigs — A medium yarding, all classes being represented. The demand was good, and small pigs sold exceptionally well. Large pigs realised values on a par with last weeks rates. Best baconers realised from B£d to 9d per lb, and best porkers from 9d to 9jd a lb.
