PERSONAL.

A social and dance organised by members of the Ashburton Post /and Telegraph staff was held m She Victoria Hall last evening for the purpose of saying farewell to Mr R. Capstick, who recently retired on superannuation fiom the position of superintendent of the postal branch of , the local office. There was an attendance of about 50, and the evening was thoroughly successful. The hall was pleasingly decorated for the occasion, . and all concerned m the function had evidently worked hard to ensure its success. During the evening presenta-, tions were made to Mr and Mrs Cap-' stick on behalf of the Post and Telegraph staff, Mr Capstick receiving a case of pipes and a tobacco pouch, and Mrs CapsticK a salad bowl. The presentations were made by Mr G. H. Harle, the postmaster, who referred to the esteem and regard with which Mr Capstick had been held by the staff of the Ashburton Post and Telegraph office. During his term at Ashburton he had proved exceedingly popular, and his retirement would give him a well-earned rest. Mr Harle's remarks were endorsed by Mr D. O'Connor (telegraph supervisor), Mr T. Brophy, and Miss Weathered. In the course of the evening some enjoyable musical items were contributed by Misses Twohill, Bradley, Wilkie, and Brophy, and Messrs Brophy, R. and H. Capstick, and Soal. An excellent supper , was served.
