RIFLE SHOOTING.
(By "Onlooker.") Extensive preparations are being made for the Ashburton County miniature rifle championship, which is to be fired on September 24. Three matches are being arranged, and very keen competition frorii the numerous rifle clubs of the County is expected. The first match will be the team championship, for teams of five men (25 yards, seven shots, one , optional sighter), the prize being a silver cup. Match No. 2 will be the individual championship, seven shots at 25 yards, with one optional sighter. The prizes will be a a gold medal, value £2 2s for first, and a trophy valued at 10s 6d for second. The remaining match will be the grand aggregate match, for a prize valued at £1 Is. The folI lowing conditions have begn drawn up for the championships : — 1. Five bull's-eye targets will be used. Sighting shot only fired on centre bull's-eye. Remaining bull'seye must each be fired on, and not more than two shots on any one bull'seye. 2. Committee will appoint checkers, whose decision shall be final. 3. Committee will allot targets and ballot for order of shooting. 4. Competitors will find own rifles and ammunition. Any make 22 rifle. No telescopic or magnifying sights allowed. 5. Competitors will find own markers. Targets must not be handled by markers after being fired off. 6. Teams must be all members of one club situated m Ashburton County, and must be all ready to shoot at the appointed time. Captains must supply names of teams m the rotation m which they will shoot. Teams' shoot will be taken first. 7. Time limit : Teams, 40 minutes per team ; individual match, eight minutes per man.
