SIR JAMES WILSON.

(PRESENTATION FROM FARRIERS.

WELLINGTON, July 26

During the sitting of the Farmers' Union Conference to-day the presentation of an album and address was made to Sir James Wilson, patron of the union, who for many years was president, and who intends to continue his association with the body.

Mr G. W. Leadley, the president, said that the presentation was being made m recognition of services rendered to the farmers and the whole community by Sir James Wilson. It had been hoped to institute a Wilson scholarship, but this now had been found to be not practicable. However it had been decided that year by year a sum of. money should be set aside to found a Sir James Wilson prize for some educational subject to be chosen by Sir James. The address referred eulogistically to Sir James Wilson's twenty yeajrs' service as president of the union, m successfully directing the activities of that organisation. Reference also was made to his services as a member of Parliament for 14 years prior to 1896, also his work on various local bodies m the Manawatu district. The album presented with the address contained the signatures of prominent members of the union m all pairt9 of the country. Replying, Sir James Wilson traced I the early history of the Farmers' Union movement, pointing out that m many ways it had been of value to the community. Dri Reakes, Director of Agriculture, spoke appreciably of the services rendered to the cause of agriculture by Sir James; Wilson, whose name would always" be held m honour and regard. Tributes also were paid by Mr A. i Robinson (Wanganui) and Mr 0. K. Wilson (Piopio). ,
