A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE.

WELL PATRONISED YESTERDAY. EXHIBITION CLOSES TO-NIGHT. The success of the .Ashburton Winter Show was completed by fine weather yesterday. The attendance was large ail day, and also m the :e.Vetaing. The Arcade and its annexes amply accommodated the extensive array of exhibits, and displayed them to full advantage, so that all sections were brought easily under the 4 notic.e>. of ., the visitors. The staging bf^ the exhibits was very satisfactory, and altogether the show was a great success from the points of view of both competitors and spectatorsThe judges discharged their duties m a most efficient manner, and the awards were announced very promptly. The officials all worked •enthusiastically for the good of the show 3 the secretarial arrangements being especially satisfactory. Practically all the judging was done yesterday, with the exception of the canaries and cagebirds and the cats. The cats were m strong force, the numerous classes all attracting entries. These sections were judged to-day. In addition to the Society's prizes, there was also a splendid list of specially donated prizes of money and value for all sections of the show. Exhibitors therefore, if at all successful, found that their ' efforts m preparing exhibits were well worth while. Last evening additional entertainment was provided by the presence of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles Band and the Pipe^Band. The show will be open until 10 o'clock to-night, and the bands will again m attendance. Mr F. Dacre, who judged the open poultry classes, and Mr ■ jj. '. Tmdall, last evening expressed/ the view that the show was by far the best they had seen m Ashburton. Mr Daore added that Mr Rattray's exhibit, which, took the Amos Cup, was the finest bird he had yet seen, m any show m all !his judging experience of poultry shows.
