SHIPPING SERVICE CUT.
INTER-OOIX)NIAL STEAMERS. (Per Press Association Copyright.) i SYDNEY, June 24. Owing to a falling off m trade and increasing expenditure, it is stated that important changes are pending m the New Zealand and Hobart steamship service out of Sydney. Though nothing definite is announced, it is rumoured that the Union Company and the Huddart-Parker Company are arranging for a. ten day instead of a weekly service from Sydney to Wellington, Sydney to Auckland, and Sydney to Hobart, beginning' next month. It is also stated that the Wellington boats will make' Sydney their terminal port, and not proceed to Hobart, _m consequence of the new Navigation Act which will operate on all boats running m the inter-State trade. I MELBOURNE, June 24. ' Referring to the proposed reductions m the shipping services, Mr Appleton, of the Inter-State Shipowners' Federation, stated that the increased expenditure involved m conforming to the Navigation Act made it impossible for shipowners to maintain the service* at its present strength. A reduction m the services between Sydney and New Zealand and other ports was inevitable.
