*«» THE RAKAIA CLUB. The annual meeting of the Rakaia Bowling Club was held m the Library, and presided over by Mr T. Blackley. The balance-sheet showed that £36 15s had been received m members' subscriptions, green maintenance and material had cost £16 5s 3d, and £32 had been paid to the Domain Board. There was a debit balance of £6 18s Id. In reviewing bhe activities during the #past year the chairman referred to the loss sustained by the club m the death of the late Mr H. J. Harrison and the remqvaj from the district of Mr J. Sowden. There was every prospect that during the coming season many matches would be arranged, the Saturday half-holiday greatly facilitating this being done. He pointed out that the Rakaia Club had probably the lowest subscription of any bowling club, only one guinea being the charge, and this fact greatly helped to popularise the green. . The following new members were elected : —Messrs J. McCoy, J. Newton, and A.' A. Oliver. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring president (Mr T. Blackley), to the ljtdies who so kindly provided refreshments, and to donors of special prizes. The date of the opening day was N left m the hands of the committee. It was decided to hold a social m August, and to present at that func- | tion the nrizes won. The following officers were elected : — Patron, Hon. C. A. O. Hardy, M.L.C. • I president. Mr Geo.
