LATE COMMERCIAL.
ASHBURTON MARKET REPORT,
Wheat. — So far no definite advice has been received from the Government regarding its proposed purchase scheme, and until this has been definitely arranged, _ lines of wheat are difficult to place, with the exception of samples of nice qualfty fit for seed. Oats. — The position remains practically unaltered. Samples coming to hand are, generally speaking, of poor quality m comparison with those- of last year. Last week a fair demand set m from the North Island, but this has now evidently been well supplied, as to-day the position appears to be slightly easier. Gartons to-day are nominally worth about Is lid to 2s on trucks. Samples of good heavy Duns of dark colour are enquired for, but Algerians and other lines are negieeted. Lines of good, ' heavy, bright, oaten sheaf chaff are saleable on a basis of £3 per tonAm trucks, but the enquiry is not keen. Linseed. — The position still remains very weak, with few enquiries, fair average quality to-day being only worth about £8 on trtfeks. Potatoes. — A better demand is now setting m, but locally the potatoes are not yet fit for digging, consequently any orders from the North Island are being shipped from other districts. The price to-day is nominally about £3 on trucks.
