GOVERNMENT'S ATTITUDE.

STATEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER

((Per Press Association, Copyright.) LONDON, April 21. In the House of Commons, Mr Lloyd George, replying to a question regarding Ireland, reiterated that the Government was ready to meet representatives of the Irish people to discuss any proposals offering a prospect of reconciliation and settlement, subject to the reservations that the strategic unity of the Empire must be safeguarded, and that Ulster must not be coerced.

He pointed out that so far no reply had been received to the Government's offer of a safe conduct for the meeting of the Dail Eireann.
