The High C0iu...,a.-.i.uiier jox ....copotamia removed Sayed Talib Pasha from oihce as Minister of the Interior, and ordered His departure from Bagdad. This action was the outcome of a speech at a dinner to distinguished personages, including Umir Rabith and the Sheikh Salem Ali Kay an. After repeating the High Commissioner's promise that the intention of the British Government was to ensure the people entire freedom to choose their own form of government and their own ruler, Talib declared that hfe and his countrymen were determined to see that .Britain's policy,, was faithfully j carried out. Addressing Umir and Salem, he suggested that if any signs became apparent to the contrary, they with their armed tribal followings would have to be reckoned with, and also his Highness the Naquib. In the order; for the removal of Talib, the High Commissioner says he did not doubt the friendly attitude and sincerity of the chiefs referred to, but f he tolerated such an unseemly threat is a recourse to armed force he would be failing his duty to the people and the British Government. Talib has left' Bagdad.
