Coffey was working on the^ forward winch when * . his coat caught m a drum of the winch ' and he was carried round and crushed between the two drums, receiving severe injuries to his head and neck!, Dr. B. H. Gilmour was summoned, but* Coffey died shortly after the doctor's * arrival. The body was conveyed t* ±he morgue, where an inquest will bei' held at 10.30 this morning. •
MAN DISAPPEARS FROM MAORI. CHRISTCHURCH, This Dayi The disappearance of a steerage passenger named Fred. Wilson was reported upon the arrival of the Maori at* Lyttelton yesterday morning, and it- is feared that he has been lost overboard. The man's disappearance was reported upon arrival at Lyttelton by McNaughton, a steerage passenger. McNaughton stated tha£ Wilson boa/fded the Maori with, him a#. Wellington. Wilson was on boartl when the vessel left Wellington wharf, but on -arising at 5 o'clock yesterday morning McNaughton found him missing. McNaughtnn .searched the steer^ age quarters, and afterwards the ferry, train, but without result. Wilson's address is friven as Puta-. ruru, near Rotorua. He is describe* as 46 years of ace, Oft m height, and wearing a light grey suit. *■ ' :
