LONDON WOOL SALES,
h (Per Press Association.) H WELLINGTON, December 11. B The High Commissioner cables under f'date London, Bth inst., as follows: — ' The wool sales commenced yesterday. There was a large attendance from all parts, but competition was unsatisfactory. A large proportion of the merinos and fine crossbreds catalogued was withdrawn without bids. Medium crossbreds met with fair bidding, and n few superior lots sold at Is to Is 4d per lb. Buyers purchasing to satisfy urgent requirements paid the Government limit, irrespective of the market value, which in many cases was lower. The New Zealand catalogue included 2073 bales, mostly slipes and scoured, which met with a poor demand. Average prices are:—6o's to 64's (merino), Is 10d to 2h 6rl per lb; 50's to 56's (halfbred), Is 5d to 2s per lb ;48's (fine crossbred). Is 3d to Is 5d per lb. Others were neglected. This week's offerings consist of Australian merinos, greasy 13,050 bales, scoured 3650; crossbreds; greasy 2950, scoured 750; New Zealand crossbreds, creasy 1900, scoured 2350, sliped 1700. LONDON, December 10. At the free wool sale the offering consisted chiefly of wools from Puntsx Arenas and the' Falklands, with a small quantity of West Australian merino, which was mostly sold at prices about 10 per cent, below those ruling at the Government sales. Four sales "of free wool have been fixed for the January series. Cargoes arriving up to the 6th i will be available.
