MELBOURNE, Dec. 11. Mr W. M. Hughes .has- announced that, the salaries of the Commonwealth civil servants will be increased from a minimum of £196 to £208, with proportionate increases ; :to ;£3po; and also 5s allowance for each child.

The coalminers are submitting fresh claims including a six hour day., a minimum weekly, wage of £6,. and a daily wage of 25s.,iive days' week, the abolition of the contract system,, a fortnight's holiday annually on full pay, the abolition of the afternoon shift, and a voice in executive e.ontrol of the industry. Pending the granting of the claims- aai interim awaird is sought conceding 25 to 48 per cent, increases.
MELBOURNE, This Day
The Federal Basic Wage of £4 will involve an extra amount of £1,000,000. The Public Servants' Association secretary states that single men on £162 will not receive £4 a week. Reports from different States indicate disappointment among the public servgasts at the Court's decision.
