It i» reported in diplomatic circles that Chili, and Japan are verging on an incident of considerable, gravity following upon a formal protest from Japan because she was .not. invited to attend the Magysllen . Straits , celebration. The protest stated that because of Japan's importance in the Pacific, she feelg keenly the slight, especially as two otj&er' naval Powers, Britain and the United States, had been invited to commemorate 1 t&e discovery of the straits.
