SHIPPING AT A STANDSTILL.
(Par Press Association Copyright.). SYDNEY, December 10. The storm continues with, increased fury, the' centre 6f the cyclonic disturbance being n£ar Sydney. All ferry traffic 'crossing'the ;entrance to the Head's stopped at 2.30 p.m., as the sea was raging worse; than ever. The storm, with highly dangerous seas, extended from Newcastle Ho Moruya. The rainfall for Sydney to date is the highest recorded for December for sixtytwo years. All train traffic is delayed. In many cases the trolley poles of trams were -blown off the overhead wires. Heavy damage to crops is reported from the country. The gale, at its height, struck Newcastle this morning, the wind reaching a velocity of 80 miles an hour. Over sixty families were rescued in low-lying districts by police in boats. Shipping in the hai> bour experienced a perilous time,,. almost every vessel breaking its moorings and " drifting till tugs made all fast. It is expected that the gale all along the coast will subside to-night.
