SWIMMERS AND FACILITIES
The efforts made by the Ashburton Swimming Club to induce the Ashbur- , ton Borough Council to provide a more up-to-date bath than the pool in the Domain were recounted at the annual meeting; of the, club last evening and unfortunately it was reported that there was no prospect of the realisation of* this hope this season at any rate. The council has decided to undertake certain works to improve the pool in the Domain, mainly with the idea of keeping the water clear and free from small branches.of trees and leaves. The club has made a reasonable' request that this work be expedite^, 30 as to make the pool ready for the''swimming season. It is hoped that ,th^' council.will recognise its responsibilities to swimmers as well as to members of other athletic clubs. Many other sports are amply and properly catered for in the domain, but it cannot be said that swimmers enjoy like benefits. In past seasons the pool in the Domain, has been particularly uninviting, not only, on account of the unclean and- stale ,appearance of the water, but also because of the accumulation of filth. It is time this, was remedied yand that reasonable and decent provisiim was made for the large number of people, of bo,th sexes, young and old, who enjoy a swim in the hot season of^.the year. The swimming season is already here and the council should do its best to hurry the completion of the, work, which must berfregarded as a,, temporary expedient only. . : •. ' -:_-. '■ ■■ ''• : -\. "■
