CHERTSEY.
Although a wet night, a fair number attended 'at the hall on Saturday evening, to hear & lecture by Mr, H. R. Foston, entitled "A trip through the Districts North of Auckland." The lecture was illustrated, >and was interesting and instructive. Mr Foston generously donated half the proceeds to the local school funds.
Owing to the splendid weather, experienced in Jiily," farmers are well' advanced with their work in this district, and welcomed the heavy,rain which fell all day on Sunday. Fortunately, not many lambs have made their appearance, the season not becoming general untiL the end of the month. :
The erection of the memorial stone which is to he erected in Chertsey in memory of those of the district who made the supreme sacrifice during the war is being delayed owing to the shortage of cement. . ' . ',
